Vintage Kitsch Everywhere

On a recent trip back to my  rural hometown I decided to visit my grandmother, master of kitsch with her 1950s cottage kitchen. I remembered the familiar winding pattern in the road and the pot holes that had been festering in the same spots for decades. Little did I know that I had completely forgotten about one particularly kitschy landmark. Driving around one bend in the road I found this...

I have no idea what led the owners of the barn to paint such a kitschy happy face, but I it totally made my day so I wanted to share it with you :)

Check out the blog this weekend for a sneak peek of upcoming Agent 137 goodies, plus a feature about vintage kitschy clocks....

Sneak Preview

I realize that this is a sorry excuse for a blog post... but I did want to leave you with something before I head off to dream land.

This is an item that I am super excited to add to the shop tomorrow morning. After much vacillating I finally decided that it just wasn't suited for my kitschen wall so hopefully someone out there will want her for their vintage decor.

She's an adorable vintage 1950s anthropomorphic wall pocket! A great way to add some cheer to your day!

Kitschy Carnival Inspired Art

A few weeks ago I filled an order for a visitor to the Agent 137 shop. I carefully wrapped the little leather carnival mouse and sent him off to Canada:

Little did I know that he was actually destined to arrive at the home of an amazing artist. Heather Millar is a professional painter living on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Her work has been featured in several publications as well as gallery shows. The creative paintings include kitschy toys poised in a sea of bright background. Although visually realistic her lens creates images that depict cheerful nostalgic childhood memories with a twinge of something darker.

In any case, her work is amazing and Agent 137 is honored to have her capture one of our toys in time. You can view more of her work on her blog at:  http://heathermillar.blogspot.com/

And the Winner Is...

The Agent 137 blog held its first contest this week! I was super excited to see what would happen when I posted the announcement on the Etsy shop. Within the contest week there were many enthusiastic participants and the blog received many more visits than it ever has before.

Unfortunately there could only be one winner drawn at random. I would like to thank everyone for participating. We will definitely be holding more contests in the future!

Congratulations to Raquellebelle! You will be receiving your prize in the mail soon :)

Find of the Week

I have my regular shops that I case for vintage goodies. Apparently my good karma I had been saving up finally paid off because on my regular rounds this week I happened to come across this pleasant surprise:

I found a pair of big sad eyed portraits two years ago and I decided to sell them. I have suffered with the regret this entire time, but no more! I am so thrilled to have found this guy that i hung him up on my wall the second I got home. I am redecorating my toy room into a vintage dream world. I also scored some cute vintage paint by numbers that will joining my big eyed friend. The best part of this find? He was on the $1 table!!

Hand Stitched Happiness

I have been negligent in the department of blogging lately. I have been attending auctions, flea markets, estate sales and have seen some truly incredible things, some of which have followed me home.

So I started to think, " I wish that there were something I could do to pass the time as I am sitting at these auctions." So I decided to experiment with some new types of doll making. I thought that i might share with everyone my first attempt. She is entirely hand stitched and dressed on bright yellow gingham and rick rack, planned to contrast with her mood.
